Meet Rachel Lynn
Hello! I’m Rachel Lynn. I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 11 years old (2004). I spent years, as a diabetic, faking my management and ignoring my disease. I then spent a few years obsessively analyzing every single gram of carbohydrates. It’s taken me a long time to feel confident in my management and realize that managing diabetes is an integral part of my health. If my diabetes is out of control, the rest of my health will suffer. I realized that optimum health was possible without obsessive management. Although I would never say that I am grateful for the diagnosis of diabetes, I AM grateful for the lessons I have learned on this journey.
Learning to manage diabetes has taught me discipline, awareness of my relationship with my body/mind/hormones and taught me personal responsibility that I may not have had otherwise. It has also made me grateful in ways that I am not sure that I would otherwise be. This journey has taken me from unreasonable shame and guilt over my diagnosis to gratitude for the lessons it has taught me. My mission is to help anyone with diabetes feel like they can successfully manage their disease, navigate life’s uncertainties and advocate for themself with confidence.
